“Did you have fun while out disobeying your daddy, kitten?” Lorenzo shook his head with disappointment.
Trying to swallow a lump that lingered in my throat, I croaked, “Disobey?” I shrugged my shoulders.
“I told you he’d never insult you again. Why are you making yourself his target by coming back here? I heard the way he talked to you on the phone.” He began rubbing his palms up and down against each other, waiting for my answer.
“I wanted my money back! He took what’s mine, and I worked hard to earn it.” I stamped my foot on the ground to prove my point.
I had to admit it was wrong telling him I needed a nap and sneaking out to run home.
But heck, he wasn’t the boss of me. It wasn’t like I needed to report to him my whereabouts twenty-four/seven. The fact that I had no control over my life, and never did, unleashed something in me. I found perverse pleasure in challenging him.
He ripped out the words impatiently. “Just wait until I get you home.”
“Fine,” I said, and got into the front seat of his car. There was no use arguing with a guy the size of a gorilla.
His closeness was intensely male, so bracing in the confines of the car. The way his hand sensuously stroked the back of my hand put me in a trance and and soothed my temper.
We arrived at my cottage and his huge, body rippled with muscle when he turned the key in the front lock and told me, “There are some new clothes for you to try on the kitchen table.”
“Aren’t you coming in?” My voice held a challenge and an affront. Was he just going to drop me off and leave me?
“I’m going to get something from the main house, and I’ll be right back. Don’t worry,” he froze, twisting his cufflinks in place, “I’ll never let your punishment slip when you’ve been such a bad girl.” A huskiness lingered in his tone and a ripple of anticipation and lust tremored through me. Leaning forward, the rich timbre of his voice whispered in my ear, “And you know you deserve it, don’t you?”
I studied his profile, and a thrill of frightened anticipation stroked my spine as he let himself out the front door of the cottage, leaving me behind to simmer in a thrilling stew of jitters and excitement.
The clothes he bought me fit perfectly, and I chose a lavender sundress to wear. It wasn’t long before I heard the doorbell ring.
I opened it and he stood there, his eyes filled with deep longing. “My God, you look so pretty, Jessica.” His irises shone with a savage inner fire as he swept them over me. “Good enough to eat.” Our eyes locked and a quiver surged through my veins.
His jerky movements made it appear as if he were holding some emotion in check. “Would you like some tea? I was going to have some?” I asked.
“May as well,” he said. “We have things to discuss.”
Okaaaaaayyy.
I set out a plate of cookies on the metal bistro table next to a picture window in the living room, along with a cup of piping hot tea with honey in front of him.
“Jessica, you like calling me daddy, right?” He pinned me with his stare.
I nodded, and inside, my emotions were in a riot.
“You like me taking care of you? Protecting you? Being gentle with you?”
Yes, yes! All of those things.
Since mama died, I’d lived with a dull ache in my belly and bones.
Lorenzo’s words made me realize how desperately I needed him, and I wanted to believe that he’d take care of me. That no matter what happened in life, Daddy would be right there beside me. Instead of saying all those things, I just nodded, dumb struck.
“Some daddy’s like to punish their baby girls, but that may not be for us.” He said the words tentatively, as if testing the idea. Little did he know, his words made me ache for his touch.
“Why not?” I asked.
He hesitated, searching for something to say. “Because if I sp@nked your sweet bottom, I might like it too much.” An uncertainty crept into his expression.
“How so?” I asked.
His face closed, as if guarding a secret. Next, he revealed it, “It would make me too excited.”
I hesitated, torn by conflicting emotions. “From sp@nking me? I don’t think so.”
His burning eyes pinned me in place. “You wanna bet?”
The only thing which broke the silence between us was the harsh, uneven rhythm of my breathing.
Lorenzo continued, “The thing you have to understand is that I have a flip side. I want to treat you like a princess and then do very bad things to you.” He paused, looked at his hands, and then rubbed them together. “Do you think you can learn to do as I say?”
I longed for a man who protected me, kept me safe, and yes, loved me, but could I handle one who demanded my obedience and disciplined me when I broke the rules?
I wanted him to make me act out the sinful scenes I’d read about only in books. But did I actually have the courage to go through with it?
